Amy Schilling

President

Amy Schilling, (MA, RID: CI & CT, ASLTA Certified), holds a BA in Deaf Education from Eastern Kentucky University, a MA in Interpretation from Gallaudet University, and is completing her Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from EKU.  Amy has been interpreting professionally since 2004 and is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the American Sign Language and Interpreter Education Department at EKU.

Amy Hatzel

Past President

Amy Hatzel has been an interpreter since 1991. During her career, she has served the deaf and hard of hearing community in a variety of settings. Experience includes an internship with KCDHH, an appointment to the Kentucky Licensure Board for Interpreters, KYRID Representative to the Kentucky Board of Interpreters Policy Committee and staff interpreter for the Central Intelligence Agency. She served two terms as KYRID vice president before being elected president in spring 2010. She holds NAD-V certification, a Bachelor's degree in Interpreting from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master's degree in Special Education from Georgetown College. She is currently employed as a special education teacher and teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Carter County, but also maintains an independent sign language practice. She resides near Ashland with her husband, Gerry and their three daughters.

Courtney Williams

Public Relations Coordinator

Courtney Williams graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2018 with a B.S. in ASL and English Interpretation. After completing an internship in South Carolina with South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind they moved home and are currently working as a contract interpreter across Western Kentucky and Tennessee. Courtney now serves the Deaf and HOH community in various settings including; educational, medical, mental health, and performance.

Tara Stevens

Director

Tara Stevens, CI/CT, has been professionally interpreting since 1999 with experience in postsecondary education, VRS, and theatrical work. She has an M.Ed. in teaching interpreting and currently teaches at Eastern Kentucky University in the American Sign Language and Interpreter Education Department.  In her spare time, she enjoys being outside playing in flowers.

KYRID is a non-profit organization of interpreters for the D/deaf and hard-of-hearing persons, students of interpreting and consumers. The principle objective of KYRID is to initiate, sponsor, promote, and execute policies and activities that will further the profession of interpretation of American Sign Language and English and the transliteration of English.

 

KYRID is affiliated with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and shall uphold the purposes and abide by the rules and procedures established for affiliated chapters of RID.
